UN Women and UNAIDs Announces Media Awards for Excellence in Reporting on HIV and Gender- Based Violence Issues in PNG
Media Awards for Excellence in Reporting on HIV and Gender- Based Violence Issues in PNG
‘Hear My Voice! My Story...’
The Media Awards for Excellence in Reporting on HIV and Gender- Based Violence recognises the high standard of balanced and sensitive reporting from local media personnel on GBV and HIV issues in PNG.
In advancing the 2030 Agenda, the Sustainable Development Goals recognise the need to promote the empowerment of women and gender equality in order for sustainable development to take place. Gender equality can only be realised when women, girls and other vulnerable groups have full access to a range of social, economic and political rights HIV and Gender-based violence are inextricably linked, and the media play a significant role in challenging detrimental stereotypes that tolerate, allow, excuse and in some cases encourage violence against women and girls, other vulnerable groups and people living with HIV. The greater the awareness of these issues, the greater the advocacy to reduce, prevent and eliminate these twin epidemics of violence and HIV. The UN Women / UNAIDS Media Awards will be presented to journalists who demonstrate excellence in reporting on HIV and GBV issues and who have contributed through their reporting to increasing public awareness and positive action on these epidemics.
